MARGAO, FEB 6: Forgive and forget. Churchill Brothers (Goa) hold no grudge against Tollygunge Agragami coach Amal Dutta ahead of tomorrow’s Coca Cola National Football League (NFL) group `A’ match at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, here.

At least that is the view echoed by Churchill technical director Armando Colaco who reflected on a troubled campaign last season at the centre of which was the desertion of the club by Dutta, who was guiding the Goans at the time.

“In sport there’s no room for grudges and all the ill feelings against Dutta is a thing of the past,” Colaco explained.

Tollygunge, a promoted Calcutta side, arrived in Margao only this afternoon after missing last evening’s flight from the eastern metropolis. Dutta, showing no trace of anxiety on his return to Goa, explained quite enthusiastically the benefits of his `box’ system, while his players underwent their training session.

Dutta, who had earlier innovated the `diamond’ five-man mid-field, talked about using six players moving up anddown the pitch in unison to support two strikers and the defence. According to the coach who quit Mohan Bagan earlier this season, the system suits his young energetic team well.

Churchill and Tollygunge are tied on 10 points from seven games each, just behind JCT Mills (Phagwara).

Churchill coach, Scotsman Danny McLennan, expects a cruncher tomorrow in what he thinks will be a key game in the settling of the Super League qualifiers.

McLennan, who coached the Goans to second position in the inaugural NFL two seasons ago, says he expects a good result despite the pressure.

Both sides are smarting from first defeats in this league. Tollygunge, after a fine run, crashed to defending champions Mohun Bagan 0-3, while Churchill went down 0-1 JCT in Ludhiana.

The Goans will be concerned with a shoulder injury sustained by Philip Mensah, their star Ghanian striker, during training this morning. Cyril Baretto is expected to support Portuguese striker Jose Martin D’Cruz. The return from suspension ofSomatai `Soso’ Shaiza brings some cheer to the Churchill camp along with the sparkling form of little mid-fielder Aqueel Ansari.

On the other side of the pitch, veteran Nigerian striker Chibuzor Nawakamna will join Sri Lankan Roshan Perera upfront and the prospect of having another adept forward at his disposal — Dipankar Biswas — brings a smug look on Dutta’s face.

With African medios Akinsanya Sayeed and Felix Abayomi in Tollygunge’s ranks as well, one wages that Churchill’s Ghanian ‘keeper Edward Ansah will have quite a task on hand.

The teams drew 1-1 in their previous meeting at Calcutta.
