BEIJING, OCT 27: A Chinese pupil who called his teacher a “dog” behind his back was ordered to eat 1,000 flies as punishment by the offended teacher or face severe beating.

Pan Guangli, a teacher at a primary school in the town of Yuxi in southwest China, was so infuriated when the pupil’s classmates told him about the insult that he cooked up a grim menu of punishment, The Shanghai Evening Post reported today.

Faced with the stark choice of eating 1,000 flies or an unspecified portion of slugs, 100 strokes with a cane from the teacher or 1,000 from his classmates, the pupil opted to be beaten by his erstwhile friends.

But after 200 lashes, the youngster was in such pain he pleaded to be allowed to eat flies, said the paper, and the sadistic teacher willingly obliged. The pupil, whose age and name were not given, finally managed to swallow just three flies as he vomited out four others which the teacher tried to cram down his throat.

The paper said the headteacher took a dim view of his teacher’s actions and was mulling over sanctions of his own although it declined to give details.
