THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN 24: Chinese ambassador to India Zhou Gang on Monday strongly advised India not to use the presence of 17th Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje in the country for "anti-political and anti-social activities against China."

After delivering a lecture on 50 years of China here, Gang said "we hope India would not use the presence of Karmapa for anti-political activities against our soil.”

Instead of trying to damage the bilateral relationship between both the countries on the issue, it should further foster the growing relationship, he said and affirmed that his country firmly believed in the five principles (Panchsheel) for better relations.

He hoped that the issue would not strain the bilateral ties between both the countries which have many things in common to grow hand in hand in the changed world surroundings.

Earlier delivering the lecture, he recalled the strong association between both the countries and felt that the relationship which saw ups and downs in its course had improved tremendously during the last one year. India and China have a common task, especially in the post-globalisation era of building up the economy and eliminating poverty, Mr Gang said and called for mutual co-operation to benefit the both. We should strive together to establish a new political and social order aimed at ensuring world peace and further improve the relationship based on the five principles,” he said.

“Opposition to colonialism and unity among the Asian countries should be our motives,” he said and reminded that “competition will only harm the growth prospects of both while co-operation will usher in benefits.”Talking about the reforms in his country, he said China wanted to adhere to Marxism, leadership and social democracy and at the same time to pursue policies of reforms.

“We have explored and opened up a new way of building the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics so as to bring into play new vitality into China’s socialistic system”, Gang said.

“We have established a basic economic system with public ownership as the backbone and common development of various types of ownership, with socialist market-oriented economy,” he added.

As the two initiators of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, China and India have similar or identical views on such major international issues like multi-polarity, globalisation, human rights, population control, arms control and disarmament, environment protection and a new international order, the ambassador added.
