China has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the Indian Railways in any area of interest. This was conveyed during a high-level meeting between Indian and Chinese officials during a recent visit of an Indian Railways delegation to China.Led by Railway Board Chairman K C Jena, the delegation comprised Financial Commissioner Sudha Chobe and other senior officials. The Indian delegation held discussions with the Chinese Railway Minister Liu Zhijun and other Chinese officials.The visit helped the Indian Railways team learn about the developments that have taken place in Chinese Railway, such as world-class stations, double-stack container operation and heavy-haul operations.The delegation visited Nanjing and Shanghai South and had an on board experience of the high-speed EMU train running between Shangai and Nanjing. The delegation also visited container operation areas with ISO containers of eight-and-a-half and nine-and-half-feet and also visited a multi -modal logistics park near Shanghai. Further, the team visited a freight station on the Datong-Qinhuangdao heavy-haul line for coal traffic where trains loaded beyond 20,000 tonnes are hauled using twin-bo-bo electric locomotives of 12,000 horsepower. The team also saw the automatic train examination systems installed at this station where the defects in a freight train are detected automatically by machines installed on the track and noted in the computerized control centre for attention by engineers.
