BEIJING, SEPT 1: China on Wednesday severely condemned the decision of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang Party to incorporate President Lee Teng-Hui's provocative `two-states' theory into its charter and accused Lee of pushing 22 million Taiwanese people to the `abyss of war'."As Lee travels farther on the splittist road, the Chinese people including Taiwanese compatriots will firmly fight against him, and Lee's splittist attempt is doomed to fail," an official from the office for Taiwan affairs of the Ruling Communist Party of China was quoted saying by the official Xinhua News Agency. He said Lee's move of writing the `two-states' remarks into party documents will also put an end to the future of the Kuomintang.Beijing remains incensed after Lee said last month he wanted China-Taiwan relations to be redefined as `special state-to-state relationship'. However, China regards Taiwan as a rebel province that should be reunified with the mainland.Chinese leaders have viewed Lee's remarks as a shift from the `one China' policy, a guideline accepted by the United States, China and Taiwan and the base for peace in the region for decades.China has repeatedly declined to renounce the option of using force against Taiwan if the cash-rich island decided to split from the Chinese mainland."Lee Teng-Hui has imposed his position on splitting China upon the Kuomintang, which is a betrayal of not only the history of the party, but also the Chinese nation," the Communist Party official said.
