Children display nature, abstract photographs at Nehru Centre

Young shutterburg Samarth, who was in Ladakh for a mere 15 days in June, said he was so overwhelmed by the beauty and the serenity of the region that he shot up to 8,000 pictures with his Cannon Powershot 8 Megapixel camera. “At the time of shooting, I was not thinking of displaying or selling the pictures. But now, my frames are selling for Rs 2,000 each,” he said. Till Sunday, Samarth had already sold five pictures from his collection.

Every November, Nehru Centre reserves a week before and after Children’s Day to showcase children’s paintings. “This year, my father contacted the centre with my portfolio and they decided to display photographs instead,” explained Samarth. Esha and Aditya, who already had their own collection, later joined Samarth.

The youngsters agreed that they were greatly influenced by the scenes they saw during their travel, and captured them in frames.

“During one visit to a monastery in Leh, I saw a sandstorm and a hailstorm moving towards each other. It was so scary, it looked like they would collide,” Samarth said. The Nehru Centre also held a photography workshop for Children’s Day, in which students of doorstep schools were given a camera and asked to shoot from the 15th floor terrace of the centre.
