While the fate of Manji is still uncertain, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has entered the fray to help the child. The NCPCR has been consulting legal experts to work out a solution in the best interests of the child. "Although the law does not recognise this father's right to take the girl back home, it's not acceptable to simply leave her like this. We will be taking this matter to legal experts to see if we can find a way to allow the father to take custody of the baby," said NCPCR member Sandhya Bajaj, adding that the commission will also write to the state Women and Child Development Ministry for more details regarding the case. The Ministry of Women and Child Development is working on regulations that will ensure legal and medical rights to surrogate mothers and children born to them.
