LUDHIANA, July 23: It was like a bollywood crime thriller script which started with kidnapping of a child, a telephonic message for ransom, the police chasing the criminals and catching them and restoring the child to his parents.Munish Singla (8), a student of Class IV in Akal Sahay Convent School was abducted this morning while going to school on foot along with his elder brother Johny, a class 6th student from his residence in New Janata Nagar locality here.According to Johny, a White Maruti car with `applied for' number plate screeched to a halt besides them when they were very close to school building. One occupant of the vehicle forcibly picked up Munish and the car sped away. Johny rushed to the school and informed the principal that his younger brother had been abducted.Dinkar Gupta, SSP told ENS that on getting the information from the principal, the police officials including SP City-II S.S.Sandhu and SHO. Police div. No.6 Maninder Bedi arrived at the spot.At around 8.15 am., almost 45 minutes after the child was kidnapped, his family members, running a transport and financing business here, received a telephone call demanding Rs. 2 lakh ransom for the safe reburn of the child. ``In case of non-compliance or intimation to police, the child will be killed,'' the abductors threatened.In the meantime, a police party led by Bedi received a tipoff from some bystanders on the general direction taken by the vehicle used for kidnapping. The chase yielded result when the police succeeded in recovering the child, the vehicle and the kidnappers from a dense forest near Rara Sahib along the canal. Accused Hardeep Singh Deepa and Amarjit Singh have been booked under section 364-A IPC.
