The Hooghly district health administration sounded an alert after 11 people are found to be afflicted with Chikungunya at three blocks — Singur, Chanditala andKhanakul.
“We had sent 30 blood samples for a test. Reports revealed that 11 people have been afflicted. An emergency meeting was held on 23 October, following which an alert was sounded. The reports reached district health department recently,” said Bhusan Chakraborty, Hooghly’s Chief Medical Officer.
The district officials, in collaboration with local panchayat authorities, are organising awareness camps at villages where the cases have surfaced. “Chikungunya was reported from Mrigala in Chanditala and Bara in Singur. In Khanakul, the disease hit Nadipur, Palaspai I and II panchayats,” Chakraborty added.
According to him, three residents of Chanditala are suffering from Chikungunya while four each from Singur and Khanakul have been afflicted with the same disease. The situation, however, has not gone beyond control, he said. According to reports, 104 people from Chanditala, 187 from Singur and 133 from Khanakul have been suffering from high fever.
