Now, computers are ready to dish up feed for poultry.
The Central Avian Research Institute in Bareilly has designed ‘Make Feed’, an user-friendly Windows-based software which can provide an efficient balanced formulation of feed for a wide variety of poultry for maximum protection performance. The exhaustive database gives the users information on nutritive values of a number of feed ingredients and their appropriate quantities. The software also has a detailed help option for troubleshooting as well as as wideranging options of readymade rations.
The trigger for the software is the tremendous growth of the poultry (15-18 per cent) and egg (seven per cent) industry. To steady the growth, it was necessary to work on the feed, which accounts for 70 per cent of the product cost.
The software allows users to select the type of feed available (say maize or soyabean meal or rice bran) and indicate it in the ‘My Ration’ section. The computer then calculates the requirements for calcium, phosphorus and soluble vitamins if the user did not include these elements. For poultry-owners unwilling to go to such lengths, there is the handy 75 ‘Readymade Rations’ option.
The Make Feed software can also calculate rations on the basis of pricing.
