Fifth seed Juan Ignacio Chela was the biggest casualty on the opening day of the Swiss Open on Monday as fans prepared to welcome Grand Slam giant killers Albert Costa and David Nalbandian. Chela, the Argentine, lost 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic in the first round in Gstaad, although eighth seed and two-times champion Alex Corretja was untroubled in beating Brazilian Fernando Meligeni 6-1, 6-4. Local favourite Michel Kratochvil, who took British number one Tim Henman to five sets in the fourth round at Wimbledon last week, went out 6-2, 6-4 to Russian Mikhail Youzhny.
