CHANDIGARH, Dec 6: With the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) launching the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) scheme a few days ago, the flat allottees under the various CHB housing schemes are likely to be spared a lot of harassment, besides saving considerable time and energy.

The allottees had to run after the nonchalant babu for basic information such as the amount required to be paid or the penalty or interest to be charged. All that is in the past, boast CHB officials. Thanks to the scheme, the allottees can now dial 742145 or 741409 and get all the information regarding their flats.

The tele-housing facility is reportedly not available in any of the three Housing Boards in Punjab and Haryana. There are nearly 2,500 allottees under the seven housing schemes which have been put on the tele-housing scheme.

Last year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of country’s Independence, the Board had launched the scheme as a test case for MIG housing scheme, Kajheri, Sector 61.

Says Board chairperson Meenakshi Datta Ghosh: “I had noticed far too much interaction of the allottees with different wings of the CHB office”.

“Overwhelmed by the response, we decided to extend it to other schemes to reach a larger number of allottees. A detailed exercise was carried out involving computerisation of accounts pending in CHB in pre-possession stage,” she said, adding, “We also conducted a survey as to the kind of queries people normally come up with and we put all these in the machine”.

“The CHB is on the verge of launching an EWS/LIG housing scheme. Most probably we will be putting it on the tele-housing scheme as well,” Ghosh revealed. She added that the CHB had not deployed any additional manpower for the tele-housing scheme and that the purchase of hardware had cost the Board nearly Rs 3 lakh. While presently only the queries till the pre-possession stage are being handled, CHB plans to accommodate the post-possession stage once the Board is computerised, said Ghosh.

She added, “CHB has arranged for a UPS with a four-hour battery back-up so that there’s no break-up and the allottees don’t face any difficulty”.
