OCTOBER 29: The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to honour renowned flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, theatre personality Pandit Satyadev Dube, dance exponent K P Kitappa and visual arts exponent Francis Newton D’souza with the prestigious Kalidas Samman for 1999-2000.

The decision to confer the award was taken on the unanimous recommendation of a jury constituted for the purpose, official sources said. The Samman comprises cash of Rs one lakh and a plaque of honour.

Satyadev Dubey said: “I cannot but be happy after receiving this award. I have been involved with theatre for 40 long years. But the award does not solve all my financial problems, which are inevitable while doing theatre.”

Earlier recipients of the award include Semangudi Shriniwas Iyer, Ravi Shanker, M S Subbalaxmi, among others.
