Harinder may head Coast Guard
The government seems set to go back on its crucial decision which led to the sacking of Admiral Vishnu Bhagwatthe appointment of Vice Admiral Harinder Singh as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. Sources said that Singh may now be given an quot;out-of-the-mainstreamquot; appointment. One option being considered is to send him, on deputation from the Navy, to the Coast Guard as its Director General.

Government today set up a committee to ensure foolproof security to the Pakistani cricket team throughout its India tour starting January 21 in the wake of threats by Shiv Sena to prevent them from playing in the country. Four Sena activists accused of damaging the cricket pitch at Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium, were remanded to judicial custody till January 21.
