MARSEILLE, Dec 5: Italian coach Cesare Maldini could barely conceal his relief after the World Cup finals draw on Thursday as the `Azzurri’ got an easily manageable draw with Austria, Cameroon and Chile in Group B. Maldini tried to hide his satisfaction saying: "We have to see what actually happens on the pitch … let’s wait for the matches before making any judgements. It’s easy to say now `It’s going to be easy’ and then maybe it doesn’t actually work out that way.

Cameroon football federation President Vincent Onana said: "We know our opponents well, especially Italy who we played in 1982.”

Group A: Brazilian coach Mario Zagalo said: "I know that Brazil have the measure of Scotland as I know the `British’ style of play well having played England twice recently and it doesn’t intimidate me. I realise that in 1974 we could only draw 0-0 with Scotland but things will be different this time round. Also I relish the chance of avenging our 4-2 defeat by Norway earlier this year."

Group C: French coach Aime Jacquet said: "It could have been worse for us. We know all the teams well enough, both their strengths and weaknesses, to form a match winning strategy."

Michel Platini, former French midfield great and co-President of the organising committee, said: "The group is relatively easy and it could have been a lot worse. Group D is a real killer."

South Africa coach Clive Barker said: "We faced France (in a friendly in October) without defender Mark Fish and midfielder Doctor Khumalo and lost to a late goal. This time we can hold them on their own ground.”

Saudi federation President Faisal Bin Fahad said: "We are triple Asian champions and are competing in our second successive World Cup. We are confident we can do better than last time and reach the last 16.”

Group D: Spanish coach Javier Clemente said: "We haven’t been lucky. Our group is one of the toughest. Nigeria is the best African team — we already know a few of their players like Finidi George who plays for Betis. We’re playing against them at 1430, it would ha ve been better to play at 2100.”Nigeria football federation President Abdul Mumini Aminu said: "The first thing we have to do now is get a manager. I’m very happy with the draw and we should at least be able to get into the second round. We’ve been lucky.”Group E: Holland coach Guus Hiddink said: "We better watch out because although we beat Belgium easily in our two qualifying matches they now know all about us.” Mexico coach Manuel Lapuente said: "It’s not an easy group.”Group F: Germany coach Berti Vogts said: The United States, Yugoslavia and Iran are good sides.”

President of the Iranian football federation Darius Mostafavi said: "I am very happy tonight. It is an honour to have to play Germany because they have won so many titles in international football.”

Group G: England coach Glenn Hoddle said: "Playing Tunisia at two in the afternoon will Probably suit them more but I like the sound of the stadium that we play Romania in.”

Group H: Argentina coach Daniel Passarella said: "We’re satisfied with our opponents, but not delighted. (Brazilian coach) Mario Zagalo thinks it will be an Argentina-Brazil final. But first we’ve got to get through the first round.”
