Centre would set up a task force involving Home and Defence Ministries to establish ‘tourist police' for providing safety and security to tourists, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni said on Tuesday. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Manapet in Puducherry, she said 'tourist police' would be established and all States may have to set up such policing facilities. Referring to Karnataka assembly elections in which BJP emerged the single largest party, she said the Congress, which won 80 seats, retained its vote bank. She said BJP evoked sympathy among the people while the Congress did a honest campaign. `We will function as a constructive opposition`. The BJP had also made several promises prior to the polls and it would be closely watched as to how the promises were translated into action, she added.
