The Centre has denied Arunachal Pradesh permission to send an official delegation to China on the ground that the state’s proposal did not meet certain guidelines issued last December. The tour was supposed to begin tomorrow. Explaining the reasons to the state government, MEA has referred to a letter written by Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran to the chief secretaries of states on December 26 last that specified four guidelines to be followed for visits to China.
Incidentally, proposals from several state governments for study of the Special Economic Zones in China are awaiting clearance by the ministry.
Arunachal Pradesh wanted to send a delegation, including two ministers, to Huanzhou where a six-day workshop on bamboo will be inaugurated on July 3. The ministry was approached on June 22.
