CALCUTTA, NOV 20: The BJP president, Kushabhau Thakre, on Friday said that the situation in Tripura was grim and the Centre might consider imposing President's Rule in that state.Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said: ``The situation in Tripura is very bad and it demands some serious thinking.''``But the demand for imposing President's Rule in that state should come from that state itself. In case such a demand comes, we will definitely consider imposing President's Rule in that state,'' he said.Thakre said that since his party did not have the requisite majority in Rajya Sabha to get the presidential proclamation ratified, there should be a consensus before taking a move like this. Incidentally, the Congress had demanded Central intervention in the Left-ruled state quite sometime back.As far as imposing Central rule in Bihar was concerned, the BJP president evaded a direct answer. When he was told that the Congress too had demanded President's Rule in that state in the wake of themassacre of 12 persons in Chhattarpur district of Bihar, he snapped back: ``We don't believe in the bonafides of that party. They ditched us before in this regard.'' Meanwhile, Thakre ruled out toppling the Orissa government, saying the people of that state would themselves throw that government out during the Assembly elections, which were just three months away. ``Though the Giridhar Gamang government has failed miserably in its job in providing succour to the people, we are not in favour of toppling it right now,'' he said.Kushabhau Thakre was here in connection with the selection of new office-bearers of the state BJP. In this connection, he mentioned that organisational elections of the party would be over in the party by May, 2000.
