CEC gives green signal for road on China border

The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) of the Supreme Court and the Central Wildlife Board (CWB) has agreed to re-demarcate the boundary of the Askot Musk Deer sanctuary situated in Pitthoragarh district of Uttaranchal to pave a way for the construction of a 75-km-long road from Ghatiabagar to Lipulekh Pass on the China border.

According to state government officials, the CEC and the CWB met last week and agreed to take out 111 villages out of the proposed sanctuary, which has been the biggest impediment in the construction of the road. The decision of the CEC would soon be conveyed to the apex court to seek the formal permission for the construction of the road, officials said.
