Taking a serious view of ceasefire violations at the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan, BJP on Thursday demanded that they be seen in the backdrop of recent increase in terrorist incidents in several parts of the country.

“It appears that Pakistan is trying to provide covering fire to infiltrating terrorists into India. These violations should be seen in the backdrop of recent increase in terrorist incidents in several parts of the country,” senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters in New Delhi.

“We have lost a soldier in these skirmishes on the LOC.

There have been 19 such violations since January,” he said.

“UPA government should take up the issue of ceasefire violation firmly and effectively with the Pakistani government,” Naidu said.

“If Pakistan is serious on taking the ongoing peace process forward then why are we witnessing current spate of repeated ceasefire violations and increasing infiltration,” he quipped.

The BJP leader said, “during the NDA regime, India had used diplomatic skills and asked Pakistan to announce ceasefire with a commitment to stop all anti-India activities on its soil.” “But now after four years, BJP is apprehensive over Pakistan’s intentions and UPA government’s diplomatic skills to ensure peace and stability in the region,” he said.
