The Cabinet Committee on Security met tonight to assess the readiness of country’s key sectors in the event hostilities break out with Pakistan.

Sources said the prime issue was country’s crude oil/petroleum products stock position. The oil industry status report, which featured on the CCS agenda for the first time since 1971, assured month-long ready supplies of petroleum products for the entire country.

‘‘Along with processing of current stock of crude oil, the supplies can be extended by a month,’’ a source quoted the report as saying. It provided details on the number of days of cover for each product, the vantage oil installations, and backup scenarios in case of any disruption on the West coast.

Jaswant Singh indicated that India did not think that there was a change in Pakistan’s stand on aiding and abetting militants. ‘‘That statement is no different than his annoucement issued on January 12. We wish to see its translation into action,’’ he said on Musharraf’s statement.
