In an ambitious project to conserve heritage buildings and monuments in the country, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), a premier research institute in the field of building research, will develop strategies and methodology to preserve these buildings. As a first step in this direction, CBRI organised a two-day seminar on the subject. CBRI has already been providing technical guidance for the restoration of several heritage buildings such as Taj Mahal, Sun Temple and Konark. Chairman, CBRI Research Council and former Vice-Chancellor of the Roorkee University, Prof. H.C. Visvesvaraya, said that ‘‘the conservation of heritage buildings and monuments had not yet been taken up in the desired manner in the country’’.
