NEW DELHI, FEB 2: The office and residence of one of Delhi’s senior-most police officers was raided by the officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) early on Tuesday. Raids were also conducted in four other places, including a jewellery showroom owned by the IPS officer’s wife.
The raids came in the wake of complaints that Additional Commissioner of Police (Control Room and Communications) J K Sharma had amassed assets disproportionate to his income. An FIR to this effect was registered by the CBI officials last month. It was at around 7.30 am that the CBI officials raided the fifth floor office of the Addl CP. Simultaneously, another team of CBI officials raided his residence at 9, Telegraph Lane which continued for almost 12 hours. CBI teams also raided his wife’s jewellery showroom in Hauz Khas, his relative’s house as well as some property dealers associated with him.
According to sources, this is the first in the series of raids. “A list of senior IAS and IPS officers have beenprepared and we shall be taking action against all of them,” the source said. Sharma, who took over as Addl CP last year, was earlier transferred out of Delhi following charges of corruption. At that time, he was posted as DCP (N-E) and local politicians had held a dharna outside his office to protest against the rampant corruption in his district.
He was initially moved to Delhi Armed Police and then transferred out to Arunachal Pradesh. A 1981 batch IPS officer, Sharma has been Additional DCP (Delhi), DCP (Headquarters), DCP (Police Control Room). He has also served in Goa and Arunachal Pradesh.
