In a prize catch, sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today raided the premises owned by a senior IPS officer in Hyderabad and stumbled upon assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The properties are valued at more than Rs 1 crore.
A team of CBI officials from New Delhi, which reached the city this morning, swooped on the three residences of Deputy Inspector General of Police K. Nagaraju at Banjara Hills and recovered movable and immovable assets worth Rs 1.19 crore.
The investigating authorities also seized several incriminating documents, details about the bank lockers and bank accounts. Teakwood worth Rs 12 lakh was also found in one of the residences and the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department officials were informed about the same. ‘‘The total value of the assets could be much higher as the CBI team will open the lockers and verify the bank accounts in a day or two,’’ a senior CBI official told the Express. The immovable assets included one flat each in Somajiguda, Navnirman Colony at Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet and Begumpet, a residential complex at Vanasthalipuram, a 12-acre farm house at Turkapalli in Ranga Reddy, three plots in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills besides Rs 15,000 in bank.
Nagaraju, who worked in a nationalised bank before joining the IPS in 1983, belongs to Manipur and Tripura cadre. He worked as DIG, CRPF, here and was repatriated to home cadre 10 days ago.
A case was being registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
