When Jagdish Joshi, the owner of Goa Gutkha, entered the CBI office at 12.30 pm on Friday, he appeared calm and composed. But after six and a half hours of intense grilling on his alleged nexus with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, he emerged exhausted and visibly disturbed.
‘‘The interrogation is on. Ask all your questions to the CBI,’’ said Joshi.
However, when The Indian Express contacted him later, he said he was not disturbed. ‘‘No, not at all. I am exhausted because I did not sleep well last night,’’ he said.
Joshi refused to reveal the questions posed to him by the agency, but denied he had named any big shot during the interrogation. ‘‘I did not name any filmstar or politician,’’ he said.
DIG Loknath Dehra of the CBI also refused to comment on the interrogation, but said Joshi would be returning tomorrow for questioning.
Joshi also confirmed that he came to Mumbai last night via New Delhi from Dubai and had surrendered his passport to the CID in Pune. When asked if there was a possibility of him turning approver in the case, Joshi said: ‘‘I cannot comment on that.’’ Earlier in the day, when his younger brother Arun Joshi spoke to reporters, he said: ‘‘It was upto him if he wanted to turn approver.’’
However, it is still unclear if Joshi came before the CBI as an accused or as a witness. ‘‘Would an accused be released after his interrogation,’’ asked Joshi’s advocate Ganesh Gole.
