The CBI on Sunday interrogated a person who claimed to have seen Rizwanur Rehman being kidnapped from the Khanna crossing in north Kolkata by four persons at around 10 am on September 21.

On Saturday, Indranil Ghosh, a resident of Jadavpur, claimed in an interview to a private television channel that he had seen four persons forcing a person, who resembled Rizwanur, into a red ambassador which sped off towards Ultadanga.

“I was standing at the crossing when I saw four people along with Rizwanur alighting from a taxi and then forcing him into a red ambassador. The car then drove off towards Ultadanga,” Ghosh said.

Just after the interview, Ghosh was summoned by CBI officials to their office and interrogated throughout the night. CBI sources, however, refused to divulge details of the interrogation.

“We have heard his version, but have not recorded his statement. We are verifying his claims. But if he misleads us we will definitely take action,” said Arun Kumar, CBI (Special Crime Branch) Joint Director.

The CBI officials said they had also received a letter on Wednesday from an unknown person who claims to have seen Rizwanur being kidnapped. But they are not sure if Ghosh is the same person who had written the letter.

Ghosh had claimed that he was able to identify one of the four abductors.

He recognised him as the same promoter who was involved in the murder of his relative Anup Das in January.
