The CBI, scouring the city in their hunt for the Todis, is on alert. Sources in the investigative agency say they will oppose any move by hosiery baron Ashok Todi, his brother Pradip and their family friend Anil Saraogi - accused in the Rizwanur Rehman case - to obtain bail from the Supreme Court. The investigative agency’s sleuths have so far failed to arrest the three chargesheeted in the Rizwanur Rehman case. The CBI court in Kolkata had issued an arrest warrant against them on October 27."We will oppose any attempt by the accused to move the Supreme Court and get bail," said a source in the CBI. "We are trying to arrest the three. On November 3, when the case comes up for hearing, we will tell the court the trio is absconding. With the court’s permission, we can then get a ‘lookout notice’ issued against the them," the source added. CBI sources apprehend the Todis might move the Supreme Court any time to get reprieve from the arrest warrant. Sleuths visited the Todis’ and Saraogi’s houses, offices and factories but failed to trace them. Apart from the office of their company in Kali Krishna Tagore street in Kolkata, sleuths also visited their houses in Salt Lake and Alipur. The CBI had filed a chargesheet in the case on September 22 and accused Ashok Todi, Pradip Todi, Anil Saraogi, Pappu and three police officers of abetment of suicide in the Rizwanur Rehman case. The court issued summons asking the Todis and Saraogi to appear on October 2. Moinuddin alias Pappu, also one of the accused, is in Presidency central jail. He will be produced in court on November 10. The CBI court has asked three officers of Kolkata Police - Ajay Kumar, Sukanti Chakraborty and Krishnendu Das - to appear on November 3. The three policemen had surrendered on September 30 before the CBI court. Rizwanur, a computer graphics designer, had married Priyanka, the daughter of Ashok Todi in August last year. Pressure from his wife’s family allegedly drove him to suicide on September 21, 2007. Festive look in Todi officeThe head office of Todi Industries wore a festive look despite the fact that its owner is absconding. The two main offices of Ashok Todi’s Rs 200-crore Lux Hosiery at Kali Krishna Tagore street at Malpara in central Kolkata, were shut on Wednesday for Diwali. The first and the fifth floor offices had their grill gates decorated with diyas and candles. "Today most business houses are shut because of the festival and the offices of the Todis are no exception. Tomorrow they will open again," said a businessman, who has an office next to Todi’s.
