MUMBAI, Nov 15: With indications that extradition of dreaded gangster and brother of Dawood Ibrahim, Anees Ibrahim, may take a long time, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is preparing to send a team of its senior officials to interrogate the gangster in Dubai. Anees along with 27 other members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang was arrested by Dubai authorities on Saturday in connection with the murder of Irfan Gogha, Asian kingpin of the drug mafia and the mastermind behind several cases of abduction for ransom.

A senior CBI officer, requesting anonymity, today said it may take the Government of India six years to extradite Anees given the legal formalities involved in the procedure. However, with a little help from the Interpol, a Special Task Force (STF) could go to Dubai to interrogate the gangster in connection with his involvement in crimes in India, the officer added.

Meanwhile, Mumbai police now believes that Irfan Gogha was murdered by the Dawood gang to avenge the killing of Nepal-basedunderworld don Mirza Dilshad Beg, a frontman of Dawood Ibrahim who was shot dead in Nepal a few months back. A member of the rival Chhota Rajan gang and Babloo Srivastava were believed to have carried out the execution, said a senior police officer. Gogha’s body was found in his car on Friday by the Dubai police after his wife lodged a missing complaint.

Police believe that Gogha was killed by Anees and his younger brother Iqbal with the help of Sharad Shetty, a close aide of Dawood. Shetty too was picked up by Dubai authorities from a hotel soon after Anees’ arrest. Though Gogha was a close associate of Dubai-based gangster Khalid Pehelwan, recently he had made moves to get into the Babloo Srivastava gang. Members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang have also been baying for Srivastava’s blood, who is currently imprisoned at Tihar Jail, sources in the intelligence agencies revealed.

Gogha (31) is believed to have been picked up from his Dubai residence about four days ago by the associates of Anees Ibrahim.
