MUZAFFARNAGAR, FEBRUARY 10: A Special Court has imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not expeditiously handling a case relating to police firing on Uttrakhand agitators on October 2, 1994.

According to prosecution sources, the court imposed the fine on the CBI after it failed to produce witnesses and its officers in the court during the proceedings. The cases were transferred to a special court in Moradabad by the Allahabad High Court.

The CBI had filed several cases against senior officers and personnel of Muzaffarnagar police for the alleged molestation and rape of seven women.

CBI counsel S C Gupta had sought the adjournment of the case on Wednesday. This was the second such adjournment of the proceedings.
