GUWAHATI, JAN 28: The CBI has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to any person providing information facilitating the arrest of the wanted persons in Avard activist Sanjoy Ghosh’s killing.
The CBI, investigating into the murder, said here on Friday that a cash reward of Rs 50,000 would be provided for information on each of the accused.The wanted persons, residents of Majuli river island in upper Assam, are Bhaskar Baruah alias Mridul Hazarika, Phatik Hatimota alias Saikia, Pradip Baruah alias Rajib Das. Anjan Barthakur alias Khirod Bhuyan of village Bongaon, Babu Saikia alias Tridip Dutta besides Paresh Baruah from Dibrugarh district, are also wanted in the case.
Sanjoy, who was the Avard-northeast director in Majuli, was kidnapped by the ULFA in 1997, on suspicion that he was working for the Research and Analysis Wing. Subsequently, ULFA announced that Sanjoy had drowned but on the same day detracted the statement saying that he was alive.
However, in August the banned outfit through a press statementclaimed that he had died after falling from a cliff in Arunachal Pradesh while trying to escape.
The Assam police and the CBI have been probing the matter since then.
