NEW DELHI, June 26: Three unidentified armed men decamped with Rs 5.6 lakh from a cashier when he was about to enter his employer’s Shakti Nagar house yesterday. The assailants reportedly came in a Maruti car around 8.20 p.m last night and apprehended 25-year-old Sanjay Mishra and Om Prakash — both working as cashiers — at the Inland Transport Company. The cashiers were returning from office with the cash to owner R.K. Somani’s house.
At the time of the incident, Om Prakash had entered the house while Sanjay who was carrying two bags containing the cash was following him. The assailants reportedly snatched the bags from Sanjay and when he tried to resist, the assailants fired in the air with a country-made revolver.
A live cartridge was recovered from the site. While two of the assailants were snatching the bags containing cash from Sanjay, the third one sat waiting in the car.
He drove off as soon as the other two reached the car with the booty. Sanjay raised an alarm and some people standing near the Dhariwal Chowk heard him and ran after the car. But they were not able to stop the car which fled away towards the Sawan Park area.
A case of robbery has been registered at the Shakti Nagar police station. Sanjay was reportedly unable to note down the number of the car as it was dark outside. While Sanjay has been working with the transport company for the last five years, Om Prakash has been there for the last three years. Both Sanjay and Om Prakash along with another employee Hanuman left the office in an auto-rickshaw for Somani’s house. Hanuman got off at his house on the way while the two went along to Somani’s place.
