PARIS, December 27: Former international terrorist `Carlos the jackal’ today launched an appeal against his life sentence for a triple murder in Paris in 1975, his lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre said.
Carlos, 48, a Venezuelan, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, was found guilty on Wednesday of shooting dead two French secret service agents and a Lebanese informer.
Carlos had five days to appeal to the Court of Casstion, France’s highest judicial authority.
Coutant-Peyre said she had also lodged an appeal against rulings made by the court during the 10-day trial which rejected her arguments that the procedure was not being respected.
She complained that Carlos was deprived of a lawyer for part of the trial, after she withdrew over a point of procedure, and that no direct witnesses were called to give evidence.
