According to a press release, S.P. Gulati, Assistant Cane Development Officer, sugar mills, Nawanshahr enlightened the participants about the important role moist hot-air treatment of cane seed can have in boosting cane production. Rajiv Srivastava, engineer and manufacturer of the moist hot-air treatment plant educated the participants on the actual functioning of the plant and proper upkeep and precautions to be taken while using it.

Kuldeep Singh Kang, Assistant Cane Commissioner, on the occasion revealed that the Central Govt has identified eight districts in the state for its sponsored scheme for cane development and since 1995-96 as many as 24 moist hot-air treatment plants, each costing about Rs 2 lakh at 100 per cent subsidy, have been provided to 15 sugar mills located in these eight districts.
