Commerce and industry minister Arun Jaitley maintains that the draft circulated at the Cancun ministerial on September 13 cannot be the starting point for future negotiations as it has been mainly responsible for ‘eluding’ a consensus on key issues such as agriculture and Singapore issues.
In his key-note address at a seminar on “Reflections on Post-Cancun agenda: The Way ahead”, organised jointly by Unctad and Ficci here, Jaitley said that if the draft were to be retained, it had to address trade distortions caused by huge amounts of export and domestic subsidies extended by rich countries for their farming community.
