Computer Associates (CA) on Thursday announced plans to acquire Niku Corp of Redwood City, California, which produces a programme that helps managers monitor their IT resources.

New York-based software firm CA said it would pay $350 million in cash for Niku, equating to $21 per share, which represents a premium of 27 per cent over Niku’s Wednesday closing price.

CA said the Niku acquisition would ‘‘slightly’’ reduce earnings in its 2006 fiscal year, which began on April 1, but add ‘‘slightly’’ to its fiscal 2007 earnings. It gave no specific estimates. It said it expected to close on the Niku deal within three months, pending regulatory approval and an Okay by Niku shareholders.
