With elections in the air, it was a rather busy day for new Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy. To begin with, the full Commission met Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary V.K. Diwan and asked him to complete the revision of electoral rolls in the state by March 20, three days before the scheduled date. Being the largest state with about 11 crore voters, Uttar Pradesh is taking its time to revise and update its voters’ list, and will be the last state to publish electoral rolls before the Lok Sabha election process begins.
After the meeting, Diwan said he reviewed the revision of electoral rolls with CEC Krishnamurthy and ECs B.B. Tandon and N. Gopalaswami. ‘‘The draft rolls should be ready by February 20 and the final list will be published by March 20,’’ Diwan said. It was advanced from its scheduled date of March 23.
