President George W Bush today called up Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and conveyed US support for India in the fight against terrorism and expressed sympathy for the victims of the Mumbai serial blasts.
Firmly condemning the attacks that left over 200 people dead, Bush had yesterday said that the US stood by India in the war on terrorism.
The other world leaders who conveyed their shock to the Prime Minister include Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse, Afghan president Hamid Karzai and Maldives president M A Gayoom.
“The United States stands by the people and the Government of India and condemns in the strongest terms these atrocities, which were committed on innocent people as they went about their daily lives,” Bush said in a statement yesterday. “Such acts only strengthen the resolve of the international community to stand united against terrorism and to declare unequivocally that there is no justification in the vicious murder of innocent people,” he added.
