PUNE, Jan 27: The presence of an army bulldozer on the Sopanbaug bridge, Pune today sparked tension as a huge crowd of civilians gathered there possibly apprehending a demolition of the bridge which remains their main connecting link to Race Course.

Noted gyneacologist Banoo Coyaji told The Indian Express that she had received a call from a resident that the army was out to demolish the bridge this afternoon. “I enquired with the Sub Area headquarters and they haveassured me that they had no plans to demolish the bridge but were only working towards erecting a speedbreaker. But the civilians are certainly very upset with the army authorities.” She said: “The last time they said this, they had demolished the culvert at Bhairoba Nalla”.
