Aftab Alam Ansari, who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the CID of West Bengal for his alleged terror links but ultimately given a clean chit, on Tuesday met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Ansari was accompanied by his mother Ayesha Begum.“The Chief Minister asked us to meet him. He said he would look into our allegations against the CID and bring those responsible for harassing me to book. He also promised compensation for my family,” Ansari, who resumed his duty at CESC Baranagar call centre, said. The Chief Minister has also promised that he would arrange for medical treatment of Ansari’s mother who has been keeping unwell for some time.Meanwhile, Ansari’s colleagues welcomed him back, saying they “always knew he was innocent”. “I know him since childhood. When we heard about his arrest we were shocked. And it was because of God’s grace that he was released,” Javed Khan, a colleague, told The Indian Express.T N Parihar, another colleague of Ansari, echoed the sentiments: “We are happy that he has come back. He is such a nice, kind-hearted man, he could never harm anyone.”Khan also said that they would soon celebrate the release of their colleague.The CID had arrested Ansari on December 27 last and informed the Special Task Force of UP Police. He was produced at Alipore court where the UP Police secured his transit remand to take him to Lucknow. During his confinement with the CID, Ansari had alleged that he was tortured. He also alleged that the CID took a mobile phone, a watch and Rs 500 from him which were never returned.On Monday, Ansari had met SHRC chairman Shyamal Sen who asked him to submit a detailed account of what happened to him.
