Under pressure from the Election Commission (EC), the West Bengal Government is preparing to transfer several hundreds of its officials who have been stationed in the same post for three consecutive years or more.

‘‘A huge number of officers will be transferred, for which the order has already been

issued,” Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb said.

‘‘We are having to transfer all the poll-related officers. Besides BDOs and Additional District Magistrates, we also had to transfer a huge number of OCs, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors in the police force,’’ he added.

In December, the EC had instructed the State’s Chief Electoral Officer, Debashis Sen, to transfer all those poll-related officers who had been stationed in the same area for over three years. The EC set a deadline of January 19.
