Senior BSP leaders from UP on Wednesday decided on candidates who will be contesting elections from Delhi. While insiders say at least 10 candidates have been kept waiting, two or three candidates have been denied tickets and replaced. Meanwhile, at least 33 candidates have been issued tickets. Leaders from the Delhi unit held a meeting at the party’s office in Karol Bagh this morning and discussed the final list of candidates, expected to be announced on Thursday. Brahm Singh Bidhuri, president of the Delhi unit, said, “We discussed strategies for Delhi with senior party leaders. The final list will be decided after discussions.” Seats for which candidates who have been replaced include Ahmed Nagar and Badarpur, the latter replaced by Ram Singh Netaji, the long-time Congressman who joined BSP on Sunday. Insiders said candidates from Narela and some seats in East Delhi could also be replaced. “We are expecting candidates from other parties to join us in the near future,” a party source said.
