NEW DELHI, OCT 1: The bickering between the BJP and BSP continues unabated, with BSP leaders Kanshi Ram and Mayawati now demanding a mechanism for consultations between them and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

At a lengthy meeting last night with BJP leaders L K Advani and Atal Behari Vajpayee, Mayawati and Kanshi Ram complained that Kalyan Singh had transferred officials in large numbers without consulting the BSP.

They also brought up the issue of Kalyan Singh’s Government order on the misuse of the Harijan Act. Both feared that the UP Government would go slow in implementing the Act.

Mayawati reportedly pointed out that when she was CM, she had always discussed important matters (including transfers) with Kalraj Mishra and Lalji Tandon, the two seniormost BJP ministers in her cabinet. Kalyan Singh was not reciprocating the courtesy, she said.

Kanshi Ram and Mayawati said the BSP’s understanding was that no officials would be transferred from departments headed by BSP ministers without consultations with them.

BJP sources here, however, pointed out that when Mayawati was in power there had been complaints from the BJP’s UP leaders on transfers and creation of new districts.

There is already a steering committee for the BSP-BJP coalition, consisting of Vajpayee, Advani and Kanshi Ram. But, the BSP duo is pressing for a formal mechanism through which decisions would be taken by consensus. But, things are yet to be sorted out.
