NARNAUL, Aug 10: The people of southern Haryana have decided to raise the issue of alleged discrimination against them in the matter of jobs, development and distribution of irrigation water. At a meeting held in Panchayat Bhawan here, they decided to organise a dharna on October 2 in Gurgaon to protest against the policy of discrimination of the HVP-BJP government.Raghu Yadav, member of the executive of national BSP alleged that though all the previous state governments had been discriminatory towards southern Haryana, the present government had crossed all limits.He said that the movement was started with two leaders in May '98 - himself and Ashwani Chopra, editor of Punjab Kesri, and their strength had risen to four today with Aman Kumar Nagra, MP and president Haryana unit of BSP, and Arvind Sharma, president of Haryana Shiv Sena joining the struggle.The meeting was held as a mark of respect to pay tributes to Surinder Yadav and Raj Kumar, who had fallen to police bullets during the jan andolan in 1993. Several disgruntled BJP and HVP leaders were expected to join the movement, Raghu Yadav said, declaring that this would cause concern to the present government.Although the purpose of the meeting was to highlight the issue of discrimination, the organisation said that their ultimate aim was to dislodge the present government by uniting the people of all ``biradaris''.Ashwani Chopra, Editor of Punjab Kesri, who has been active for the last two years in organising the Punjabis of the state, was critical of the traditional Punjabi leaders of Haryana whom he accused of letting down the community. He said that work on SYL was not being completed due to lack of will on th epart of the government. He said that when HVP was a coalition partner of the BJP, what was holding back the settlement on the issue.Arvind Sharma, president Haryana unit of Shiv Sena flayed the alliance government of Haryana. He said the BJP-HVP came to power by making false promises. Law and order situation was deteriorating in the state.
