A 67-Year-old British national was arrested for allegedly sodomising two pavement dwellers — one of them 16 years old — in a Colaba hotel room on Thursday evening.

Acting on a tip-off, the local police raided Maria Lodge Hotel, before arresting John Wheeldon. The hotel manager, A.P. Ayub, confirmed that a British national and two young men were in room 102.

Wheeldon allegedly slammed the door in the face of the officers when they tried to enter his room. However, the police team forced their way in, to find the men almost naked.

The two men with Wheeldon have been identified as Dadhiya Machindra Kale (22) and Mukesh Kale (16), who live on the streets around the Gateway of India. Both have been working as small-time tourist guides and speak fluent English. Senior Inspector T.A. Ghobale told Express that Wheeldon has been sent to police custody till January 12. He has been charged under Sections 377 and 23 (1) for sodomy and unlawful detention.

The Kales told the police that Wheeldon had promised them Rs 1,000 each if they volunteered to work as ‘‘masseurs’’.
