Under attack after a former ABVP national executive member was arrested for alleged role in the Malegaon blasts, the BJP on Friday argued against the use of term “Hindu terrorists”.
“A terrorist is a terrorist irrespective of his religion or caste. Nobody is saying that the law must not take its course. No one can say that,” said BJP vice-president Yashwant Sinha at a press conference here on Friday. “Some sections are trying to malign the majority community. The BJP objects to the term Hindu terrorists, which is wrong. By condemning the majority, one seeks to gain the minority vote. This is the level that vote bank politics has reached,” he said.
“Investigations should happen but the majority community is being assailed. We object to the ultra-secularists’ attempts to do so. We object to Brinda Karat’s statement in the House yesterday that it was Hindu terrorism,” he added. “Vaiko has been arrested because he made a speech in support of the LTTE. Why haven’t those people been arrested who are speaking in favour of the SIMI,” Sinha said.
Asked if his party would support the banning of Hindu outfits said to have a hand in the blasts, he said: “It is for the Government of India to consider a decision in the matter of banning an organisation. If we support the decision we will stand with it.”
