The Mumbai Police suspect that the credit profiles of between 50 to 100 Americans have been altered by two employees of Global Services, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) service provider.The modified credit profiles were of people, all in the red, on the server of a US-based firm, TransUnion—IntelNet’s outsourcing client.The police are yet to quantify the impact of the alterations.According to the police, Imran Sayeed (25) and Franc Remedis (26)—both arrested on January 24—had been accessing and altering the data since August 2005. The two are in police custody till February 2 charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.Sayeed has been named the main accused by the police, while Remedis an accomplice. Both were working at the behest of a US-based man identified only as ‘Rodney’, the police said.Police sources said the duo’s bank statements revealed that money from an international source was being deposited in their accounts over the past few months. ‘‘The quantum of money has raised questions,’’ said an official.Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Intelnet said that contrary to what a police official told this paper on Saturday, ‘‘IntelNet has not lost any clients due to this incident’’. TransUnion is yet to comment on the incident.
