A boy who reprimanded drunken youths creating a disturbance outside his house in Khokhra area of Ahmedabad was beaten up and stabbed. Today, the day his prelims started, 17-year-old Durgaprasad Prajapati is in hospital with 25 stitches and no chance of sitting for the exam.
‘‘My classmates will be appearing for the exam while I’m here for no fault of mine. I don’t know when I will be discharged. I just want to get back to my books,’’ said Durgaprasad, a student of Std X at Om Shanti Vidyalaya.
On February 11, the boy said, drunken youths began creating a ruckus outside his home in Ram Chali. ‘‘They were shouting and cursing loudly and as I was trying to study, I told them to move along. But one of them slapped me. I ran but four persons caught me. They stabbed me on my back and buttocks. One of them was Bhuriyo, a local gunda,’’ he said.
His aunt Neera said, ‘‘I tried to intervene, but the attackers threatened to stab me, too. They ran when other women began shouting for help.’’
His father Santlal Prajapati works in a private textile mill. ‘‘I bought this house eight months ago. I didn’t know anything anything about the neighbourhood. I didn’t know there was a liqour den nearby,’’ he said.
Residents of the chali said Bhuriyo has been terrorising the area for some time.
Bhurio is yet to be arrested. ‘We have registered a case under IPC section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons) against him, said Inspector Mukesh Mehta of the Amraiwadi Police Station.
