NAGPUR, DEC 22: The State Government has sought an appointment with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute with the Karnataka, informed the Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh in the Legislative Council here on Wednesday.

In a written reply to a question, raised by Suresh Patil (Ind) and others, the Chief Minister informed the House that the Government held a meeting with prominent Marathi-speaking activists of border districts in Karnataka on the issue on December 12.

He said that the new government would renew efforts to get the Centre’s intervention in resolving the dispute and hence the State Government sought an immediate appointment with the PM.

A meeting between the then chief ministers of two states — Narayan Rane and J H Patel — was fixed on July 14 last to discuss the issue but could not materialise due to election code.
