Former US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher is tipped to be the next Assistant Secretary for South Asia, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday. Currently, the post is held by Christina Rocca. Boucher was the State Department spokesman during part of the administrations of presidents H W Bush senior, Bill Clinton and George W Bush. He has also been Ambassador to Cyprus.There is also a proposal to take some of the central Asian countries from the European bureau to the South Asia one, the Post said. These would include Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. —PTI
