PUNE, Sept 3: Residents of Khadki who have been reeling under severe water shortage for a week can now look forward to some relief as the Southern Command headquarters has permitted the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) to install a booster on the mainhead reservoir to increase water pressure.Cantonment executive officer Ajay Kumar said the board would shortly place an order for a booster costing Rs 14.5 lakh.Even as Ganeshotsav got off to a grand start, the thin trickle of water acted as a dampener on the festive mood. The KCB had decided to accord water top priority putting on hold all other major works.MLA Rambhau Moze said although he had allocated Rs 60 lakh from the MLA's fund, not much had been accomplished despite several reminders. The position may have improved to a certain extent in some areas, but the slum-dwellers at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Indira Gandhi Nagar, Mahadeowadi and Gadi Adda continue to face a problem, he said. He threatened a morcha to the board office if the authorities continued to turn a blind eye to the problem.Ajay Kumar said the booster would raise the pressure four times. The water reservoir gets filled only up to the level of one and half feet instead of the required 10 feet. The Rs 50 lakh second phase will include an underground water tank with a storage capacity of 50,000 litres.
